Years ago, Radio Shack sold a devise that you could hardwire to
speaker outputs on a stereo and you could plug in a headset to it. Are
they still being manufactured. Where can I find one online ?

Greetings!
The part that you are looking for is called a inline audio jack. It
is basically just an unattached headphone jack. You can likely still
find it at your local Radio Shack or you can get it here:

http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F011%5F003%5F001%5F004&product%5Fid=274%2D274

The part has a female 1/8" jack on one side and two leads on the
other. To connect it simply connect the appropriate speaker leads
from the stereo to the plug.

Wiring this directly to speaker output will cause distortion. There
is a transformer to reduce the output to the headphones.

Good Morning,
For some reason the engineers I talked to about this didn't pick up
on that. Regardless, I will keep researching and I'll hopefully have
something for you by this afternoon.

Greetings!
I unfortunitly have bad news. After spending what turned into a
couple of hours searching for the product you were looking for, I was
unable to find anything. I also called a few of the Radio Shacks in
my area, along with a couple of specialty electronics stores and none
of them had heard of such a product. Additionally, it also seemed to
be the unanimous opinion that without knowing the specs on the
equipment your using, custom designing one would be impossible.

It is my opinion that the product you are looking for no longer
exists. As the saying goes Absence of proof does not constitute proof
of absence, so there is of course a legitimate possibility of the
product you are looking for existing out there somewhere. However as
I said, it is my feeling that it does not.

If you have any questions or need anything cleared up, please request
a clarification before rating my answer.
