This may sound strange, but I am looking for a free or cheap program
(under $30) that I can configure to nag me! I want to be able to have
it pop up with reminders on a timed basis, and ideally to lock the
computer so that I can't actually do anything until I acknowledge it
or enter some data.

Yes, I could clutter my Outlook calendar with recurring reminders, but
I don't want to :)

joseph...

I don't know of any reminder program that will lock your
computer until you respond, but I've examined and tried
a lot of reminder programs, and Kana Reminder does the
trick for me. A free download of the latest version is
available on their homepage, though the site is not fully
functional at this time:

Let me know what you think.

For $30 I could make a small modification to some nagger software I
wrote for myself.

For $29.99 you can have the one sleeping in my bed right now. J/T =P

Seriously though, I wrote the same thing for myself already just
e-mail me the details and I can make any adjustments that may be
needed and send you off. Mine uses a wav file that sounds like a car
slamming on the breaks but you can use any sound or none at all.

If it's for a child who needs to do chores we could even put in little
passwords that you could give him or her when she finishes her chore
which in turn would unlock their system again. We could even make it
play their most hated music or song to motivate them to get it done in
a timely manner! =O) Ooh the possibilities are endless.

Anyway, I think this could be fun. Who knows, we may just mess around
and design the new standard in nagging software together.
