A client of mine asked me to get rid of over a hundred shortcut copies
on his desktop. Some of them were copies 1 to 10 or more. I was able
to sucessfully delete them as a group. Every thing was ok until a day
later, when he told me the same thing mysteriously happened in his "MY
Pictures"folder. He says he ran a virus scan and several spyware scans
that
showed no infection.(I'm not sure this is true, but thst's what he tells me).
Can anyone shed light as to what might be causing this? Please advise.

Where do the shortcuts leads? All to the same source or to several
different sources?

If they all lead to 1 place then I would suspect cheap spyware.

However, it almost sounds to me like your client is holding down the
control button and dragging, if even ever so slightly. Maybe his shift
and or ctrl keys stick? Maybe he's old and his hand shakes a bit? Some
software which set system hooks such as firewalls and antivirus tend
to lock and unlock shift and ctrl sporadically. ZoneAlarm is one of
these.

Tell him that the next time it happens, as soon as it happens and
before he does anything else at all, to press ctrl+Z which will undo
all of the last changes that were made.

As I said in my description of the problem, the shortcut copies fist
went to his "Desktop". The second time, they went to "My Pictures"
