KEY QUESTIONS:
1. Can I index my book in Adobe Acrobat 6.0 standard, on a pc?
2. If so, how do I copy the search results for each topic to create my index?
3. If not, what software or upgrade do you recommend (be very specific)?
4. How do I create the index once I have the software? in pdf or word?
and how do I do it?
5. Can I download the software free or where can I buy a reasonable
copy and which version, be specific, do I need?
TO DATE I HAVE FOUND THAT IN ADOBE 6.0 on MY PC
1. I need to put all the chapter files now laid out in Acrobat 6.0
standard on the publisher?s MAC into one file. (The files/ pages
appear as they
will appear in the book, with photographs and captions, and are
paginated.)
2. I need to add the endnote files to the chapter files, converting
them from MsWord to .pdf files and paginate these also before I
perform the
topic searches to create my index.
3. Then I can use search to find any word/subject across the entire file/book.
4. I already have the list of topics I want in the index.
5. What I do not have is the pages on which those topics are discussed
in my book (produced when I do a search for each topic) compiled /or
copied? into an index file.
BELOW I EXPLAIN MY SUCCESS AND FAILURE TO DATE:
I created one file.
I searched it for a word/an index topic.
It worked.
I can do the search but I cannot save the results to a plain word
file, to my index or to a pdf file. How do I do this?
AFTER I SEARCH A TOPIC HERE IS WHAT HAPPENS and HERE IS MY PROBLEM/QUESTION
I can do a search. I see each page the subject appears on. I select it
all; but when I copy it to a file I only get the subject name; I do
not get the page numbers after that subject. Obviously for an index I
need the subject followed by the page numbers the subject appears on.
PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME TO INDEX IN WORD, UNLESS I MISUNDERSTAND
1.The layout pages are the final pages and they are in pdf files
(there are photographs and captions on many pages which are not in the
word files; thus the word files are not paginated as they will lay out
in the book);
2.To get an accurate index I assume I need to search the
paginated files, laid out as pages will appear in the book and these
files are pdfs, not word files.
PLEASE TELL ME
1.How to copy search results WITH page numbers from Acrobat 6.0
standard pdf file to create an index
2. Should that index file be in word or a pdf? And how do I create it?
2. If 6.0 standard will not work will 6.0 Professional? Which version?
Where can I get a reasonably price copy? Can I download it?
3.If not, what do you recommend?
Thanks for your help. If you can instruct me on email great. If not I
will pay $30/hr for a phonecall instructing me how to create the
index once I have the proper software, and I hope 6.0 standard will work.
