About 10-15 years ago I saw a movie (I think it was German or
Austrian) and I'd like to find the title of that movie. The movie is
about a group of German teenagers going to the front in the last days
of World War 2. Realizing the futitliy of the effort, their parents
arrange with a shady officer to take the teenagers to a remote
location, away from the front, so that they avoid fighting. The
officer, however, gets shot when he goes to the city looking for booze
and the teenagers are left defending a bridge away from the front. The
front, however, advances, and the teenagers die one by one fiercely
defending the bridge, now part of the front. The movie ends with the
last surviving teenager running over the bridge, under fire from
Amercian soldiers. Once again, I'd like to find out the name of the
movie. Thanks.

I am confident that you're remembering "Die Brücke" ("The Bridge"), a
1959 German film.

"A group of German boys is ordered to protect a small bridge in their
home village during the waning months of the second world war.
Truckloads of defeated, cynical Wehrmacht soldiers flee the
approaching American troops, but the boys, full of enthusiasm for the
'blood and honor' Nazi ideology, stay to defend the useless bridge."

Internet Movie Database: Brücke, Die (1959)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0052654/plotsummary

"Die Brücke
 a k a Die Bruecke; The Bridge
 1959 - West Germany - War Drama/Anti - War Film

In the final days of World War II, German teenagers join the Nazi army
in a futile attempt to stop the enemy invasion. A sympathetic officer
places the boys as guards of a seemingly unimportant bridge. The seven
youths are thrown into battle when American tanks unexpectedly appear
and try to cross the bridge. The film has a definite anti-war
message."

New York Times: Die Brücke

If you're interested in seeing this movie again, used VHS tapes are available:

"The Bridge" is also available on DVD:

My Google search strategy:

"die brücke" OR "the bridge" movie OR film german teenagers
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22die+br%C3%BCcke%22+OR+%22the+bridge%22+movie+OR+film+german+teenagers

I hope this is helpful. If this is not the correct film, or if
anything is unclear or incomplete, please request clarification; I'll
be glad to offer further assistance before you rate my answer.

Best regards,

I think this is the right movie. There are some differences between
the details on imdb and the way I remember the movie, but I saw it a
long time ago and maybe I don't remember it correctly. I will order it
and then I can tell for sure. Anyway, thanks for the quick answer and
all the additional details.
