Please continue with the demographic research from the last question.

I'd prefer to have several East Coast locations to test. We can go
anywhere, but all things being equal, closer is better.

We've also done well in Uniondale, Long Island and White Plains, NY.

Thanks,

Doug

Hi Doug:

[I got an early start on this last night and worked through this morning as well.]

OK, the demographic criteria we developed from the last question was:

* Persons per sq. mile - greater than 5,000
* White persons - 60%+ (the higher, the better)
* Median household income - 10%+ less than the appropriate state average
* Bachelor's degree or higher - 10%..20%
* Population - 30,000..150,000
* Persons over 65 years old - less than 12%

Now that I know that you also did well in Uniondale, Long Island and
White Plains, NY, I've compared their demographics to our existing
criteria. They don't really match most of our existing criteria; they
have very high incomes (you wanted not affluent), they have a high
percentage of seniors (you wanted 30 -50), and they have a high
education rate (which kind of goes with the high income). So, I'm
going to treat those places as a separate data set. If you want to
come back to them after we've dealt with the existing data set, we can
do some more research there as well.

You also stated that you'd like to start with places on the East Coast
- the closer to that whole NJ/NY area the better. First let's check
the places turned up in the last question to see whether they still
meet our revised criteria. The following place *did* match the newer
criteria:

Lancaster, PE
URL: http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/42/4241216.html
* Persons per sq. mile - 7,616.5
* White persons - 61.6%
* Median household income - $29,770
* Bachelor's degree or higher - 14.0%
* Population - 56,348
* Persons over 65 years old - 10.5%

Here are some additional ones that are East Coast and fit the criteria:

As I headed south down the coast, the one thing that I found
consistently was that cities that matched most of the criteria tended
NOT to match the persons per sq. mile criteria. This must be because
southern cities are less densely packed and sprawl a little more. I've
included some candidates above that are "low" on that criteria.

If these south-eastern cities work out well for you, we might want to
consider lowering that criteria to say more than 2,000 people per sq.
mile.

I think we have an excellent set of candidate cities that represent
the demographics we've decided on. I eagerly await hearing how things
go.

Search Strategy:
* used the State and county QuickFacts at
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.html

Thanks.

Doug:

If you decide to move on to another area of the country (using the
existing criteria) before you try out the East Coast suggestions,
please just open another question like this one with details of
where/how you'd like me to search.

Thanks.
