Seeking information about the relative ages of husbands and wives. In what percentage of US marriages is the husband 1 year or more older than the wife? 5 years or more? 10 years of more? And vice versa - in what percentage of US marriages is the wife 1 year or more older than the husband? 5 years or more? 10 years of more? I would like this data historically as well: for 2003 [or 2000]/1990/1980/1970/1960/1950/1940 Please footnote source/s. |

It would take a long time for me to be able to dig up this data, but a good place to start is the US census (census.gov or http://ask.census.gov/cgi-bin/askcensus.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?p_sid=IAQZc3Kh&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MTAmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PW1hcnJpYWdlIGFnZQ**&p_srch=1 to ask a question) or the National Survey of Family Growth (http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nsfg.htm).
