I live in Seattle, Washington. I got a job offer from a company based
in California. However, they will be allowing me to work from my home
here in Seattle. Would I be liable for state taxes in California?
Also, actually my current bank account is based in California (since I
was too lazy to open an account in a bank here in Seattle after I
moved to here about 3 years ago). Is this a bad idea? Should I close
that account to avoid any complications?

Hi cybergaijin,

Yes, you must file, or you must at least consider this income. Living
in Seattle does not give you safe harbour from CA Income taxes if you
earned the money from a CA company, and otherwise would have to pay.

Reference:

Do I need to file a return?
http://www.ftb.ca.gov/individuals/FileRtn/index.html
..."Nonresidents must file a return if they have any California source
income and their income from all sources is more than the fling
requirement amounts for residents..."

And:

Do I need to file a return?
http://www.ftb.ca.gov/individuals/FileRtn/index.html
..."An individual must file a return if either their gross income or
their adjusted gross income (AGI) was more than the amount defined by
law. California residents must consider their total worldwide gross
income to determine their filing requirement.

Part-Year residents must file a return if they have any income taxable
by California (which includes income from all sources while a resident
and California source income while a nonresident), and their income
from all sources is more than the filing requirement amounts for
residents.

Nonresidents must file a return if they have any California source
income and their income from all sources is more than the filing
requirement amounts for residents..."

You can take the online "Do I Need To File A Return" test here:
