buildings he paid for in the U.K.. How many did he pay for and are

Andrew Carnegie paid for a total of 2,509 public libraries between
1883 and 1929.  The country break down goes as follows:

*United States -- 1,689
*Britain and Ireland -- 660
*Canada -- 156
*New Zealand -- 1
*Caribbean -- 1
*West Indies -- 1
*Fiji -- 1
