Hi all, I tried 2 such software on trial (cost about $40 each) but I
did not buy them. I need advice from somebody who used or using a
similar software or had tried one and found it satifactory. I prefer
to try it first if possible, but willing to buy it if you are sure
that it works. Also if there is a freeware converter. Documents are
old NY newspapers on Proquest, generated in PDF format. lease see if
you can help. Thanks

Have you tried PDF2Word (http://verypdf.com/pdf2word/index.html) or
Omniformat (http://www.omniformat.com/download.html)? Both are very
good from what I have seen, both have free downloads for you to try
with your documents.

Thank you very much. I have tried PDF2Word few days ago. Maybe it is a
good software, but their trial version did not work well with me. The
Omniformat needs downloading another software first. Something like
the first one is what I am looking for, but I rather try it first. If
you are familiar with another one, please send its URL. Thanks again.

what I have done in the past, which requires no additional software
they knew what are we have if you have office 2000 and up, is to use
the text recognition software used in scanning text documents.

You must first extract a picture from the PDF document; you do this by
pressing ALT print screen while the document is visible. Then paste
the document into a picture it editing program, like Microsoft office
picture manager, this program actually has the text recognition
software built into it, and will export the text to a text file, or a
word document. In office 2000 I believe the text recognition is a
standalone program known as OCR you may find it in the add-on programs
under start/ Microsoft office/Microsoft office tools. This may also
need to be installed from the Microsoft office disk if you did not
have a scanner installed at the time of installing Microsoft office.
