Want to know if there is a way to get a phone number listing by
postcode. Reason is that I am chairman of a residential estate of 117
flats and I keep our contact numbers on computer. BUT people move, new
residents come in and mostly I am not advised of telephone number
changes. The post codes are BN16 2JZ, BN162JT, BN16 2JY, BN16 2JU and
BN16 2J. Is there any site which can enable me to do such a search,
using just the post code

Dear Roy Peacock,
I regret to say that the answer is generally no and this is mainly
because of the Data Protection Act.

The best source for telephone directory listings is BT at:
http://www.bt.com/index.jsp
Their search page requires a surname and will only accept the first
two letters of the postcode.

Limited listings are available at:
Infospace: http://www.infospace.com/_1_37WJU630NU23V2__uk/index_ppl_uk.htm
but it requires a surname.

Infobel: http://www.infobel.com/UK/
They allow a search by full post code without a surname. However,
their listings are limited. They do offer a CD-Rom with more data but
I would imagine that will be out of date as often as your database.

You may wish to try 192.com.
http://www.192.com/directoryenquiries.cfm
They offer a directory enquiry service. I have not tested this as you
need to register first.

I think the answer may be to improve the administration system when
new residents arrive.

Please do not hesitate to request a clarification if you are unsure of
this information.

I understand and accept your answer although it does not give me the
easier answer I was looking for. Obviously due to data protection
there is not "an easy answer". I can't stop people changing their
telephone numbers or insist that they advise me!. Thanks anyway.

The register of electors for the addresses you require can usually be
consulted at council offices and libraries. In the UK, this is now
updated about monthly, with lists of additions and removals to/from
the main register. This may be of some assistance.

www.ukphonebook.com is an alternative presentation, which may be
easier to use, of the BT Directory Enquiries database.
