I wonder if you can help me with the above. It's the vaguely classical
sounding music that was played during the trailers for the show and at
a couple of points during the programme itself.

It sounds very familiar and I'm sure the BBC have used it during an
awards programme of some sort too.....

FYI: 'Picture of Britain' is shown on Sunday nights at 9pm on BBC1.

Just to clarify, the music wasn't used in the programme this week.  It
was, however, still used for the trailer that was shown during the
week....
