I'm seeing plenty of information that would allow a NATIONAL map to be
put together, comparing NJ to other states.

But there is a surprising lack of any detailed data that I can find
that breaks out usage patterns within NJ.

Hav you seen such sources of information yourself?

no, i haven't. i've telephoned the utilities and they are quite closed
mouth about it. yesterday, i continued my research and found a 1999
study sponsored by a nj clean energy group that shows the percentages
of electricity consumned by residences, commercial buildings,
industrial facilities, etc., but no location data to go with it. the
study also refers to information provided by the state's utilities on
six or seven SIC (now NAICS), which is getting real close. I might
call the utilities, refer to the report and ask for more specific and
updated information. also, i've found that the utilities must proivde
monthly reports on elctricity consumption to DOE's eia and might call
the eia to ask if they can share it for nj. i haven't been able to
find the information on the eia site. also, strangely enough, the
board of governors of the federal reserve track electricity
generation/consumption, but haven't found any nj-specific information
on the site. good luck.

It is often difficult getting information from a bureaucratic
organization and that includes utility companies. Today I was
searching for a map of New Jersey utility company territories. In
doing so I found a file at the Board of Public Utilities website. It's
not exactly what you are looking for but the uri is:
http://www.bpu.state.nj.us/energy/elecSwitchData.shtml. You probably
should call the BPU for the information you request and start at the
Office of the President or with one of the Commissioners.

I found that map earlier. It shows utility boundaries, but not
industrial concentration and not electricity consumption
concentrations. It's not what I need. I contacted the BPU and know a
number of people there, but they were of no help. Thanks, anyway.
