Private health insurance is issued by a "for profit" insurance company that is licensed by the state in which they sell policies. All private health insurance is subject to a "medical Underwriting" process wher the applicant's health history is used to determine if the person is an acceptable risk to the company. Public health insurance is by either a state or federal funded program if the applicant meets certain qualifiers such as age (Medicare) or income level (medicaid). |
