I need information about public record Code Violations for residences.
 I am looking for a way to get a LIST of houses with code violations,
without a specific parcel number.

Visiting the Community Planning division of a courthouse and providing
a parcel number of a house, they are required to disclose any
information on the parcel (including code violations).

For example, I can visit and give them my address, and they will pull
my record to show to me. But I want a LIST of all properties in my
neighborhood that also have code violations.

There is probably a national or local service that scrapes public
records documents for this information on a daily/weekly basis. I am
in Lake & Cook County, IL for the cities Waukegan, Gurnee, North
Chicago and Chicago.

The reason I mention a scraping service, is because it is my belief
that the courthouse is only required BY LAW to give you one parcel at
a time, and NOT BY LAW to generate a list of all violations. Correct
me if I?m wrong, and you can instead point to the specific law that
requires they create a LIST and not an INDIVIDUAL PRINTOUT.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello manga-ga,

I thought I was on to something for a moment, for I found a site that
had code violations for all properties in Cook County, and can
generate large lists of them by neighborhood, even with property ID's
or parcel information.

However, in looking at it more closely, I realized that the
information in the system is dated from 2002, and hasn't been updated
since.

However, the mere fact that the database exists is a demonstration
that the info is available in electronic format, at least for Cook
County. I put out some queries to try and find out more info.

Nothing on Lake County, though. If I can only come up with Cook
County, but not Lake County, would that do as an answer?

Pafalafa,

Cook County is fine. However, Cook covers many areas. If your answer
is only one small town, I just can't use it. :( It is important to
me that it is:

*  Frequently updated;
*  Well populated (many entries);
*  Up-to-date.

It may also help to search for "vacant houses" or "Not Approved for
Occupancy" code violations (also known as an NAO notice) - this is the
specific code I am looking for.

Thanks.  :)

Pafalafa,

Also, if you happen across any other counties or cities, I'd
appreciate whatever info you dig up. :) I have not had much luck
myself.

Take care,

... Christopher

Violation of which code?
Would such violations necessarily be known to the planning division
and be entered in a database?

All of the code violations, recorded by the Code Enforcement division.
 I am unsure which method they use to record codes, but I'd assume
that it's in a computer, somewhere.
