How do I proceed to have authorized the "Presidential Service Badge"? I believe I am authorized to have this badge while I was performing close Presidential support duties of President Nixon while on active duty with the USAF at Homestead AFB Fl. from 1967-1972. I have military documentation to verify these duties. Yor assistanace for this belated request is appreciated. Sincerely, Eugene J Traczyk |

Hi Geno1-ga I found a website that ?provides information on requests for the issuance or replacement of military service medals, decorations, and awards? The NPRA (National Personnel Records Center) handles? ?Requests for the issuance or replacement of military service medals, decorations, and awards? There are more specific instructions on their website depending on what Branch you were in. http://www.archives.gov/facilities/mo/st_louis/military_personnel_records/awards_and_decorations.html You may also be able to email and find more information here: http://users.aol.com/presserv/text/psa.html Presidential Service Association 332 Nahant Road, Box 215 Nahant, Massachusetts 01908-0215 ://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&c2coff=1&q=who+issues+the+Presidential+service+badge&btnG=Search ://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&c2coff=1&q=Presidential+service+badge&btnG=Search If this answer requires further explanation, please request clarification before rating it, and I'll be happy to look into this further. There doesn't seem to be any web reference to how you can get this authorized, but the authorization comes from the Military Assistant to the President. You could just write to the White House Military Office to seek guidance? |

During the Key Biscayne years, the Presidential Service Badge was authorized for people assigned duty at Key Biscayne and the old hangar BLDG 908 at Homestead AFB on the flight line. I believe that LtCol Morgan in the Special Operations Office and maybe 2 or 3 enlisted USAF from the Transportation Section that took care of the fleet of leased vehicles for WH Staff, ground support equipment for AF-1 and other support aircraft were the only people awarded the PSB other than the White House Comm Agency permanent party. Direct Presidential support for 100% of the time was the requirement. It was evident that several other units on the base played a support role 13 times a year, always giving up their 3 day weekend for the entire Nixon era. The White House Communications Agency had a detachment of permanent party assigned to both Key Biscayne and Homestead AFB, but one of the requirements for assignment was a minimum of one year in the Agency in the Washington area, so technically everyone assigned to that group already had earned their PSB prior to arrival at Homestead/Key Biscayne. I am not aware of any PSB ever awarded outside the White House Military Office (WHMO) umbrella that includes the White House Comm Agency, Marines (HMX-1), 89th SAM (AF-1), WH Medical Unit, WH Transportation, WH Staff Mess, Camp David, and the WH Miltiary Office.
