Question ID: 532780
I am looking for a present for father's day. My father likes
headphones with the built-in radio so he can listen at races, while he
mows the lawn, etc.

I am trying to find headphones which have a built-in am/fm radio, and
also have the active noise-canceling/suppression. He doesn't want to
have to deal with the wires of a headphone and regular radio, and it
would help to have the active noise canceling because of the
activities he would be doing while using these.

Obviously, I would like to find a good deal on these, but I understand
they may not come cheap. What I have found so far is either the
noise-canceling headphones with no radio, or noise-canceling headsets
that have a radio, but are transceviers, with a microphone and
everything, not an am/fm radio.

Recommendations?

Those are definitly a place to turn if I can't find something else,
thanks. I was more particularly looking for headphones that have the
active noise cancelation, like, for instance the bose ones:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00021Y9OA/qid=1118731818/sr=8-8/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i2_xglna/002-2166948-4203226?v=glance&n=507846
Those are the most expensive and first of their kind, but may others
followed, in much cheaper price ranges. I am wondering if anyone makes
those active ones with the radio built in.

If not, then definitly ones like you already mentioned with a good
amount of padding or whatever to block out sound

Hi gtpilot,

Thank you for your clarification, I'm sorry for misunderstanding you,
I seemed to have gotten off on the wrong track, probably because I was
looking for ear protectors. I've had another look and have been
unable to find the combination you are seeking (radio/active noise
cancellation). However, the Alert AM / FM Radio Headset may be a good
compromise, what do you think?

Peltor Alert AM / FM Radio Headsets
http://www.peltor.se/PDF_Download/PDF_GB/Communication/FLEX_GB.pdf

$169.00
"Combines an AM/FM radio with Peltor's unique electronic ambient
listening capability. Listen to your favorite radio programming
without ever being isolated from your surrounding environment. These
features make this headset the perfect choice for a wide variety of
applications, including: Races ? Sporting Events ? Manufacturing ?
Landscaping"

$177.00
http://www.citizensafe.com/pealamcohe.html

$269.99
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0007KQUJS/qid=1118760630/sr=8-3

It's important to consider the primary reason they are needed
(protection vs sound quality) and the primary function of the products
you are looking at. Headphones that work great on airplanes aren't
necessarily what one would wear for ear protection while mowing the
lawn.

Will look forward to your reply. Please don't close your question
until you are completely satisfied.

Very thorough answer and a big help, even though I didn't find exactly
what I was looking for. The products you suggested in your first
answer might actually be better than what I originally had in mind.
Thanks so much for your help.
