I read a review of a recently published novel,which I thought was
entitled, "Story of Sipico." It covers a 1500 year period and dealt
with a manuscript that was written around 300-400 a.d. (I think, then
lost and recovered in the Middle Ages, and lost again and re-recovered
in nazi-occupied Europe in 1942. I have not been able to adequately
identify the title at bookstores. Can someone give me the correct
title? Thanks.

Dear wallacecfa,

The title of the novel you are looking for is "The Dream of Scipio",
by Iain Pear. It's about the lives and deaths of three men in
different eras of European history, each of them connected with the
manuscript in some way: The author Manlius Hippomanes, an aristocatic
philosopher in the crumbling Western Roman Empire of the 5th century;
Olivier de Noyen, a poet in 14th century Europe in the times of the
Black Death; and Julien Barneuve, a student in German-occupied France
during World War II.

Iain Pear's novel is, for example, available from Amazon.com:
