Question ID: 533061
1) I want to find current contact information for a US bank which has
been purchased by and/or merged with several other banks since 1994.
Is there a current banking entity that is responsible for old accounts
from that bank?

2) The purpose is pursue three checks that were issued by the bank
when accounts were closed, but that were misplaced and never cashed.
The checks all date from 1994. We have been unable to find the bank or
the funds through unclaimed property web sites, state treasuries, as
well as FDIC.

3) The name of the bank was: Household Bank, 1352A Charwood, Hanover,
Maryland 21076.

4) If you cannot track what entity is now responsible for Household
Bank, I would like to know if there is an "expiration date" on
uncashed checks issued in the state of Maryland.

hamiltonnz-ga,

Household Bank now appears to operate as HSBC Mortgage Services.

You can see that HSBC maintains an office at the same address as the
old Household Bank address that you noted:

https://www.hsbcmortgageservices.com/hm/cchms_ContactUs.jsp

HSBC Mortgage Services
Attn: Payment Department
1352 Charwood
Hanover, MD 21076

They also provide a phone number for customer service, although it is
not located at the Maryland address:

Customer Care
Phone: (800) 333-7023
Fax: (813) 571-8637

P.O. Box 9068
Brandon, FL 33509-9068

Further confirmation of the relationship between HSBC Mortgage Service
and Household Bank comes from this company report:

http://www.hsbcusa.com/ourcompany/pdf/hsbc_na_holdings_inc.pdf

"...HSBC Card Services is the seventh-largest issuer of MasterCard or Visa
credit cards in the United States...Under the Household Bank and Orchard
Bank brands, card services also offers credit cards to consumers underserved by
traditional providers in the United States..."

I trust this information fully answers your question.

However, please don't rate this answer until you have everything you
need. If there's anything more I can do for you, just post a Request
for Clarification, and I'm happy to assist you further.

Good luck with your old checks!

Laws and policies on stale checks may vary by bank, but I can assure
you with certainty that checks from 1994 are no longer valid and will
not be honored by any bank. Typically 6 months is the limit as to
when a bank is required by federal law to honor a check.
