Is it stupid to buy a Toyota Prius right now June 2005) in view of the
stalling problems being invetigated by the federal gov.?

Hi Billbill-ga,

What I can tell you after reading up on the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration investigation is that if there is a major issue
found, they will instigate a recall.

All that would mean is that Toyota would have to send you a notice
informing you of the recall to come in and have the issue (AKA, the
Engine) fixed for free.

"Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. said in a statement it was "an
early-stage inquiry to determine if further analysis is warranted, not
a recall."

Therefore, I'd say to go ahead and buy one if you don't mind it
POSSIBLY needing fixed down the road.
