Remember, you get what you pay for. Prepaid legal has newbie lawyers on phones if you're lucky. |

No question about it. In the legal world you really do get what you pay for. These plans book clients by promising them affordable legal services if the client ever needs legal representation. When that time comes most people will want to select their own attorney and spend as much time as they feel necessary to work with their attorney. Under a pre-paid plan, the provider of the service starts to lose money the moment a client utilizes the plan. Not a good situation if your legal issue is very important. Most good attorneys rely on a network of referrals to find new clients - consequently they must always do a good job to maintain their reputation. With prepaid you don't how will work your case. If you don't know who might do your work before hand how can you possibly feel comfortable with the plan? |

In Germany one can get insurance that does allow one to choose his own lawyer. I found these sites with a search on: legal insurance (and was pleased to recognize the name ARAG, one I know from this field here). http://personalinsure.about.com/cs/umbrella/a/aa110503a.htm https://www.aragdirect.com/LegalProducts/index.cfm Maybe this allows you more freedom to pick a lawyer if and when you need one, as this site discusses: http://atyourservice.ucop.edu/employees/health/legal/ You can find many more yourself. good luck, Myoarin |

The previous poster is correct in that you get what you pay for. I have used Pre-Paid Legal for a number of years and have been satisfied. They have been very prompt in returning my calls and were of immense assistance in a probate situation and also in obtaining a refund from Delta airlines. The lawyers I spoke with were very experienced but this may not be the situation in every instance and YMMV. For a pre-existing condition they will help but they do charge. You need to read the plan details so that you understand exactly what they cover for your monthly fee. There are several legal plan providers in the US but I am only familar with Pre-Paid. We signed up for the family plan at http://www.prepaidlegal.com/info/carolynpatterson I have a small business and use them mainly for writing collection letters. |
