I'm editing and producing a video of a stage performance and I'm
getting incessant popping/clicking noises in the audio. Please see
this sample:
http://homepage.mac.com/jgrantl/melodramatics/iMovieTheater91.html

I'm using a PowerMac G5 with Final Cut Pro 5. I've got apple's
Soundtrack software also. Is there a way to get rid of this noise?
The audio was captured with the video through another's computer into
iMovie. Is there a way to get rid of the popping/clicking without
recapturing the audio?

My understanding is that this might be a sample rate error... Any ideas?

Does that click appear on the original computer or in Imovie? If so,
the source file has problems. You can verify that it's not a
real-time error on your current machine in you zoon into the audio
where a click appears and look for a "glitch" - audio waveforms are a
continuous sinewave line.. there there shouldn't be a waveform at
180degrees that instantly jumps to 0 in a straight verticle line... if
that happens you'll hear a pop.

If that is the problem.. cut the audio in and around that section and
do a quick crossfade to mask the glitch.

Sample rate errors usually result in pitch problems.. not clicks and
pops - unless the recording system's clock was changing *while*
recording which causes mega problems.

There could have been dropouts while capturing ?

Make sure the file you are using is not aac or mp3. Either WAV or
AIFF for best results - you can convert your mp3 files in Quicktime
Pro.
