I have a friend of a friend going thru a divorce. He has a pair of jet
skis he needs to get rid of. I would like to buy them. I want to make
sure everything is on the up and up. This is in Connecticut. We have
agreed on a price, however, here are my questions:

1. They are registered all in his name. His future ex-wife's name
appears nowhere (at least on the paper's he shows me and what he is
telling me). Am I safe from her coming after me saying they are half
hers and I owe her $$$ after the fact?

2. Because he still is making payments on them, are they techincally
"his" to sell? If I give him the money, how am I 100% sure they become
legally mine?

3. Rather than pay cash, I will write a check and then go over to my
bank with him to immediatly cash it, so at least there is some record
of the transaction. Anything else I should do?

4. What documents need to exchange hands, and how?

I don't want to fork over the cash, and then 2 months later have
problems where I find technically they are still his and can do
nothing about it if he tries to take them back. (I know this guy and
he is OK by me, its just I have heard so many divorce horror stories,
who knows what might happen).
