Old arcade game. I just want the name of it... It's a 1 or 2 player game,
and the view is like contra (when you are going vertically, not
horizontally). You are either a robot, or a tank... not sure and you
have to go through this maze to find your way out. Each person has
it's own screen to see where you are. You can turn, and go straight. 2
joysticks, one to rotate, and
other to move... i believe. I think you can shoot stuff, but not sure.
Probably in the late 80s. Bugging me. Thanks!

I think the whole place is on a grid, and there's a map on the side
telling you where you are.

Any chance it's Xybots?

In that game the player is a human, not a tank or robot.
And each player has one joystick, not two.

Greetings again nobulee!

Thank you for the clarification that the game was Xybots.

Information on the coin-op version can be viewed at:
http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=X&game_id=10510

Additionally, it was available on some other platforms. For example,
here's some information on the Lynx version:
http://www.digiserve.com/eescape/atari/lynx/Xybots.html

And here's a shot from the Amiga version:
http://www.amigagames.com/gage/x/xybots.html

You may want to use a site like this one to see if the coin-op version
is anywhere near you:

Have fun,
