Your personal taste will have so much to do with this that I don't
think any researcher can give you the "right" answer. But here is a
Portuguese-English online dictionary that not only looks up individual
words, but also suggests synonyms and related concepts:

I would like you to find Portuguese names/words that pertain to water,
the sea, ships etc. I have already found and used the
english/portuguese dictionary, so please help me with something other
than the obvious. Thank you.

How about 'Perolo'?

This was the name of a Portuguese naval vessel, one of many included on this list:

Just a thought...

P.S. This isn't an answer to your question, just a possibility to consider.

"Sagres"

There is quite a bit of portuguese history behind that name.

How about 'Búgio'?

'Búgio' meaning 'little devil' was the dog-like servant of St
Bartolomew who is the Portuguese patron saint of sailors and
fisherman.

Ahoy isletakeachance-ga

Is this site helpful? It only has a limited nautical vocabulary, but
is multilingual:

These are more extensive, but are only in Portuguese

I lived in Brazil for two years, and this is what I came up with:

1. Onda - wave, as in ocean wave (rhymes with Honda).
2. Fogo - fog (rhymes with pogo)
3. Peixe - fish (sounds like pay-she w/ accent on first sylable)
4. Mare - tide (sounds like mah-hay, w/ accent on the second sylable)
5. Magellan - yep, the Portuguese explorer. First to sail around the world.

You could also go with names like Pedro, Joao, Tiago because those are
the portuguese names for Peter, John, and James (the three most
prominent fishermen in the history of western civilization). Just a
thought.

I hope that helps!
