Okay, some weird things are happening with my Internet. I will be
surfing the web and then my page shuts
out like someone came by and clicked the X. Some times I am surfing
(for example) about flowers and then
it flashes off and a totally different page opens up with
avertisments. Strange pages are appearing on my
desk top as if I saved that page, and put it on my desk top and I
never seen it before. What is going on and
what can I do about this?

Greetings Aright,

A few clarifications:

1. Do you have anti-virus software installed on your CPU?
2. Have you installed any off-brand toolbars recently?
3. Do you have an ad-buster program such as AdAware on your CPU?
4. Is this a notebook computer?

Just recently, I was at a friend's home and she had a similar
complaint about unwanted pop-ups. I looked at her browser and --lo
and behold-- there was an off-brand toolbar installed in her browser -
that's where the unwanted pop-ups were being generated. They would
just pop up at random from that toolbar. I uninstalled it for her.

Toolbars from Google and other major Internet sites do not come with
annoying advertising pop-ups. In fact, the Google toolbar has a
pop-up blocker. I've used the Google toolbar since it debuted, and it
has stopped 7,277 pop-ups to date.

Regarding the computer just shutting off, that could be a virus or it
could be just a glitch. Or, if it's a notebook, your hand may have
accidently hit a control button on the keyboard - I suggest that
because it happened to me a couple of times with my notebook. The
keys are so sensitive and, when using the keypad, it's easy to hit a
contorl key without knowing you've done it.

Further info from you may help a Researcher determine the problems.

Best regards,
journalist-ga

Clarification of "Regarding the computer just shutting off..." - I
meant to type "the browser."

Your browser probably has been hijacked, in order to give you detailed
info please do the following:
Download HijackThis:
Go to a cyber and download it to a floppy disk or a CD.
http://216.180.233.162/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe

If you have Windows 2000 or XP, also download Ewido:
If you cannot download it directly to your computer this file must be
downloaded and then copied to a CD, because it is bigger than a Floppy
disk.
http://download.ewido.net/ewido-setup.exe

Now start your computer in Safe Mode:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Then in this mode install Ewido (only if you have Windows 2000 or XP),
let it scan your computer and fix everything that it find; then copy
HijackThis to a folder created for it (just create a new folder and
name it HJT and copy the downloaded file there) and perform a scan,
then post a log here (as a clarification). If you cannot use your
computer to post the log, just copy the log file to a floppy and go to
a cyber to post it here.
For detailed instructions see:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=42#HowToUse

With this log I will be able to help you.

I will wait your response to this request, if you need additional help
in some of the proposed tasks, do not hesitate to request for it, I
will be glad to give you further assistance on this.

Regards.

Check out this free program:
http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?qt=secretmaker&tg=dl-20&search.x=23&search.y=6

It's called "all-in-one secretmaker" and will take care of your
popups, as well as prevent people from gathering a profile of your
computer in the first place, which is a common reason for targeted
ads. I've used this program for almost a year, and I love it. It has
saved my computer from popups, viruses, email spam, malicious
programs, etc. I highly recommend it.

Hi.
The best thing that you can do to help us solve your problem is to
press Ctrl+Shift+Esc or Ctrl+Alt+Del (Depend on your operating system)
then go to "Processes" tab and write all the processes that you see
then post them here.
Pay attention to all names to write with exact correct
dictation.(Because there are several adwarez and spywarez that are
same as windows file names with a little change for example
svchost.exe is the windows file BUT scvvhost is a trojan/backdoor.)
Then it is easier for us to determine your problem.
Thank you

Just to rule out a Operating System issue, why not try using Firefox
for a few days? If you know how to use IE, Firefox will be easy... It
also has popup blockers built in...
If you continue having problems then you know its not IE and could be
a trojan on your Operating System.

It looks that you still have adware program.
Try to uninstall internet explorer toolbars (google toolbar is safe)
Me helped nod32 antyvirus program http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm
(you can use free-try version) to remove tons of adware, spyware and so.
But if you decide to use nod, uninstall first your AVG, you can install it back :)
after cleaning.
