"(Query letters only. Any additional material will be discarded unread.)
Email and snail mail queries for novels, nonfiction book proposals,
screenplays, and treatments should consist of a compelling and
businesslike letter giving us a brief overview of your story, the
audience for which it is intended--and a one-sentence pitch. Be sure
to include your return address, and a telephone number with your
letter and SASE.
Include relevant background on yourself in your query letter. Relevant
information includes previous publication or production, or
(particularly for nonfiction) why you're the right person to write
this book, your "platform" and how you'll promote it.
Allow two to three weeks for a response on initial queries. Please
inform us if you want to make multiple submissions.
Allow 8-10 weeks for a response on manuscripts, non-fiction proposals,
and screenplays. Send SASE for our reply and to have materials
returned. Please no calls.
We recommend that you register screenplays and treatments with the
Writers Guild of America before submitting your query for them.
Note: Screenplays submitted without a completed and signed AEI
Submission Form will not be read.
Screenplays submitted without SASE will not be returned.
Do not send any attachments by email. Because of viruses, attached
files will not be opened under any circumstances.
Your work must be finished and properly edited before seeking our
representation (meaning proofread, spell-checked, and rewritten until
it's up to professional standards). If it's NOT in that condition, and
you require professional editorial or rewrite assistance (on a fee for
service basis) before seeking representation, you may direct your work
to the attention of Writer's Lifeline, Inc., a separate service
established by AEI's founders to help promising writers create a
bridge to professional success.
AEI, Inc., a literary management and motion picture production
company, represents literary properties strictly for a commission on
their sale as established by contract and is always attached as the
producer of dramatic book and screenplay projects.
It charges no fees other than our sales commission, and refunds its
commission when a film moves into production.
Writer's Lifeline, Inc., an AEI-affiliate charges fees for editorial
coaching and publishing consulting services requested by writers in
need of honing their story-telling or presentation skills. Please note
that working with Writer's Lifeline, Inc. does not guarantee
representation by AEI, although AEI's founders help shape the projects
and gets "first look" at them.
Writer's Lifeline clients have accounted for approximately 70% of AEI sales."

"As we are a management company, we are interested in the writer's
career first and foremost. Craft is important. We look to work with
strong writers who have compelling stories to tell. We're most
interested in writers who realize writing is an ongoing process and
therefore aren't afraid of hard work.
What do we seek?
Big stories. High concept projects with a strong hook. Think big
events, big personalities and/or amazing true stories. Films like
MASTER AND COMMANDER, A PERFECT STORM, GLADIATOR, SEABISCUIT, THE
ROOKIE and LEGALLY BLONDE. We love small stories too, such as THE
HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG, SPUN and LOST IN TRANSLATION, but they must be
of the highest quality.
At this time, we're actively seeking uplifting sports stories. True
stories are best, but we're interested in hearing about anything
sports related. Drop us a line.
Additionally, there is a great deal of interest in projects that
utilize the varied tax and subsidy programs available in many European
countries and Canada. Therefore, we urge foreign writers to query us.
We welcome BRIEF query letters from anyone who believes they have what
we seek. Please do not include a synopsis of your project unless we
request one.
You can submit a query via email or snail mail, or use the form in Contact Us.
Due to the high volume of queries, we can only respond to those
projects we're interested in seeing. Therefore, if you've not heard
from us after four weeks, it's because your project is not one we wish
to read. Feel free to query us again with another project.
VERY VERY IMPORTANT. Really. Please read this section carefully.
We will not read any submissions that:
*
Are improperly formatted
*
Are over 130 pages
*
Have excessive typos, spelling, grammar or punctuation errors
*
Are not written in English
We do not accept unsolicited submissions or submissions without our release form.
Please only query us regarding completed screenplays.
We do not return scripts and we do not offer feedback for projects
we're not currently pursuing.
Please allow at least 6 weeks for us to read your script and get back
to you. We respond to all screenplay submissions." (SOURCE: ibid)
