The book "BLINDSIDED PLANET X PASSES IN 2003 EARTHCHANGES!" authored
by Mark Hazlewood, has gathered some rather alarming statistics to say
the least. I know the internet is full of pros and cons on this
subject. I am told that a video and movie is in the works about this.
His information is that Planet X which is four times bigger than the
earth will pass between the earth and the sun between May 15 - 30,
2003. The effects will result in massive devastation and at which time
the world as we know it will cease to exist. Massive changes will be
caused by a shift of the poles and from the strong magnetic or
gravitational pull. Loss of life could be in the billions. Since I
have not been able to find any actual scientific confirmation on my
own...altho he cites several sources in his book, can you find any
authoritative person willing to speak out and tell us more about this?
I have contacted CNN and Fox News and other news media without any
response. We need truthful clarification whether it be good news or
bad news. Can you help???

Good Day, garabandal-ga

You will absolutely love the works of Zechariah Sitchin and the
related website.

(http://www.sitchin.com/). I started reading his books many years ago
commencing with The 12th Planet and Stairway to Heaven. He's an
incredible mind. Do go to the website for a fascinating introduction
to his ideas. You will note that his Sumerian translations discuss the
planet Nabiru and a few cosmonaut gods like Erdu, if my memory is
correct. The orbit of this planet is described in his books. He's
not a science fiction writer....more like an interpreter of the
ancient Sumerian/Akkadian texts that were written in cunieform.
Interestingly, he seems to be convinced that Adamu and the human race
were genetically modified apes.....the genes of the "gods" from this
12th planet were introduced into our animal kingdom to provide the
"gods" with a workforce.
Do I have to believe or disbelieve this stuff. Not anymore than
anything else in my lifetime. Enjoy new ideas, dissect them to suit
yourself and reject them at your leisure. In our quantum world what
is not possible. Have you read the old book, Holograph Universe? or
many of the wonderful works out there dealing with "other
possibilities".
Healthy skepticism does not mean limiting your life to the norm. It
allows you to explore new ideas with excitement and the special
feeling of knowing something new and magical.

As dismayed as anybody, I really get irritated when the newspapers
disclose the near miss of an asteroid whose arrival wasn't known to
the public or apparently to the scientific community. The usual
excuse is that it comes from behind the sun and cannot be detected
until it's whizzed past the planet.
If one is coming I want to take a picnic basket to a cool forest or
mountain top and sip on a great bottle of Texas Shiner while I enjoy
the ultimate fireworks.
Other than being amused, I don't care for human visions or psychic
offerings of impending doom. I do like the facts though as would
appreciate the presence of any new planet or asteroid. With Pluto
currently out of favor as a bonafide planet, it would probably qualify
as a ninth planet.

A hardnosed realist, my well educated sister was one of those skeptics
who was

privileged to be up and sitting in her back yard overlooking a valley
in San Diego not too far from Miramar(Top Gun school!), when a craft
slowly floated down the little valley at eye level to her. With a
sound similar to a vacuum cleaner, she also observed it rise swiftly
into the Southern California night sky and disappear.

Not a stealth, not an Osprey, not a new test plane, but something very
very alien to our technology. She'd be the first to debunk any crazy
idea or event, but only after it was analyzed and discussed
thoroughly.
Like me, she still thinks the Roswell incident was a weather balloon
that became a commercial goldmine for that community.

This should keep you busy and fully informed, but I do hope you visit
the library or

bookstore and try out some of Sitchin's books. They are put together
extremely well

and are not beyond the non-scientifically trained mind.

Regardless of the snickers, a curious mind is healthy; I have enjoyed
the works of

Sitchin as well as others during my life.

Sorry Brad-ga...but you have not answered my question...I already know
about all you referred to. Sitchin was also cited in the book that I
read in the first place...BLINDSIDED. I am not looking for
speculation. This is much too serious! In the NEXUS MAGAZINE,
October-November, 2001 issue, Zecharia Sitchin is quoted as saying:
"THERE IS ONE MORE PLANET IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM, NOT LIGHT YEARS AWAY,
THAT COMES BETWEEN MARS AND JUPITER EVERY 3,600 YEARS. I PROPHESIES
THE RETURN OF THIS PLANET, CALLED NIBIRUE, AT THIS TIME."

Clarification of Answer by brad-ga on 12 Aug 2002 14:34 PDT
Good Day, garabandal-ga

The Sitchin Society has many members and conventions. In fact, it is
popular in the vein of the Star Trek fans. For years, there were very
serious stories about Elvis sightings and others of similar note. They
eventually became entertaining. Many in the news media are a
well-educated bunch and no doubt are familiar with 10th Planet
theories and they might occasionally mention such things if they have
newstime for oddities that some call "Weird News".
However, they would not want to ruin their careers as serious
reporters by treating these items as anything other than "light" news.
As you know from the controversies over "cold fusion" and "free
energy" and even the credit for discovery of the HIV virus as well as
the winners of the human genome project, scientists can be very
ego-centered. They are extremely brilliant and incredible in their
fields, but they also enjoy human approval for the great things they
do. If there were any chance that such a planet existed, you can be
assured that the worlds leading astronomers would be falling over each
other in a rush to publish their discoveries.
The comments made by the other researchers are wonderful and show
clear thinking in this area. We certainly don't want to mislead
anybody by going too far beyond the facts. I, for one, would not want
to stimulate mass hysteria over topics like this. You might have
noticed a Google question over the weekend concerning a Romanian
priest who had a vision that the world would face fiery catastrophe on
Sunday, August 11 at 4p.m. The story was interesting and amusing, but
not something that we should take beyond that!

Good Luck,
Brad-ga

It's pretty easy to fall into this 'conspiracy theory' hole if you
have too open a mind while surfing the internet. If you just step
back a moment and think, it seems pretty unlikely that the world as we
know it will be destroyed by May 15, 2003. Although it's a bit hard
to sort through all the doomsday prophesies, I did find some
heartening information.

Most of these theories state that a 'tenth planet' must exist outside
the orbit of our orbit in order to explain the orbits of pluto and
other planets in the outer solar system. In fact, there is some
evidence of a tenth 'planet', but it doesn't come in the form of a
huge, inhabited world on a collision course with earth.

Outside the orbit of pluto, there is a ring of objects known as the
Kuniper Belt. Scientist have recently discovered a large object in
this belt known as 'KX76', which is about the size of pluto's moon,
Charon. The gravitational pull of this (and other large objects in
the Kuniper Belt) can slightly alter the orbit of pluto and other
planets. This more likely provides the answer to the slightly
off-kilter orbits.

There are many wild minds out there who like to make up very strange
ideas to explain slightly strange phenomena. And the glory of the
free market provides them with motives to push these ideas as truth.

Check out some of these links, each of them more skeptical than the
ones provided in the answer:

These links are several groups that look for and track objects in the
solar system. In addition to well-coordinated groups, there are many
amateur astronomers with powerful equipment watching.

The fact you hear about these near misses and possible impacts (always
a very tiny chance to begin with and have always been resolved as
non-dangerous when more data is obtained) indicate information is
getting out. Sometimes too quickly as seen with the recent "scares".

There is a real concern for when some large body (larger than 1 km)
will impact the earth. Shoemaker-Levy 9 reminded us of that
possibility, Tunguska too.

Getting back to Hazlewood's "Planet X", here are some links discussing
it from a scientific standpoint. If it was out there, doing what he
was guessing, anybody could see it now.

As Schazam mentioned, the Kuiper belt has many "large" (500 miles)
objects. Here is another discovery made back in 2000.

Here is where you can "see" 2001 KX76. It being at 19th magnitude,
you need a powerful scope and a dark sky (and probably a long
exposure). It will be even darker in May 2003. The site mentioned
the position was made from 7 observations.

Hi Schazam,

I just wanted to say that it's the "Kuiper Belt" not the "Kuniper
Belt" named after Gerhard Kuiper a Dutch-American astronomer
(1905-1973), discoverer of Miranda and Nereid.

The Kuiper Belt is a disc-shaped region outside the orbit of Neptune
about 30 AU to 100 AU from the sun.

The question is really this : are you willing to believe what the
established astronomy community has to say about this? If so, then
there's no reason to believe the Planet X rumors. If you do not, then
there's no reason to ask for information at Google Answers, since the
researchers here use only information from the established astronomy
community to answer astronomy questions.

If you're interested in what the established astronomy community has
to say, try this site at Cornell University:

Hmm may 15-30 2003, my birthday is on may 11, 2003, I think I am going
to start packing my bags, notify NASA that I will be "borrowing" the
space shuttle for a few days, that is IF they have a rental agreement
with Avis? Either that or I will be living in a cave in West Virgina
with some cockaroches, thereby guaranteed to survive anything. Heck,
at least I'll have some company. I could even have a pet cockaroach.
