Question ID: 534294
How do I send a letter to a sailor who is on the Aircraft Carrier
Charles-De-Gaulle (French Navy) if all I have is their name and
department?

I need help. I need to send a thank you card to a crew member on the
French Aircraft carrier - Charles de Gaulle. All I have is his name
and department. Can you help me? Is it like sending a letter to Santa?
Do I just write their name, dept. and the ship and it gets to them?

This person helped me learn something new about myself and they gave
me their email and home address but I lost it. It's very important
that I do this - will make me feel better and also make him feel like
I did listen. Can't explain...ugh...

HELP?

If I do not hear back from the email do you know if I were to send an
actual "snail mail" letter if it would get to him - I prefer sending a
card... Thank you so much for your help this far however!

Thanks again - in any of your research did you see any addresses to
the port in Toulon, France - that is where they live - Toulon.

wow - you are quick! thanks again...forgive me as my world geography
is pretty awful but isn't Toulouse, France on the opposite coast of
Toulon, France? Do you think anyone receiving mail in the French Navy
for someone else would know how to re-direct it? I may be asking too
many questions for you having already answered the first one - if you
feel like you would like to refrain from answering further please let
me know and I will not be offended by your request.

Sorry about my mistake with Toulouse and Toulon. I'll see if I can
find anything else.

Hello,
The "city" line in the military addresses seems to have a postal code
(ZIP) for the military: 00350 OR 00455 Armées, etc. These are in
Paris.

If you speak French - or have a translation service on your server,
you might check, searching on these addresses.

The 00350 Armées seems to be a central address from the number of hits.
I would use either of the first two addresses that Bobbie suggests,
and trust that mail will be forwarded.
Before you get too personal - since a foreign letter might be
inspected - you might want to test the snailmail or email connection
first.

Good luck, Myoarin

Thanks Myoarin - it's actually nothing too personal at all - I don't
care who reads it as long as it gets to my friend in Toulon. I will
take your advice and try again!!!
