Hi axel_wg,
I found it! I'm sure I was as happy about it as you will be! I don't
mind saying that it hasn't been an easy road to travel but I think
finding just this one book has made it worth it.
"The Electric Vehicle Hand-book" by HC Cushing.
It was published every year starting in 1913. I've been unable to find
the 1919 edition, but you should be able to get your hands on the 1920
and 1917 editions. As the following description says, "- A bible of
the time on electric vehicles".

HISTORY AND IMAGES ONLINE
Forney Museum of Transportation
"The ANDERSON CARRIAGE COMPANY began building carriages and buggies in
Port Huron, Michigan in 1884. It moved to Detroit in 1895.
Realizing the coming of the automobile they began production of their
'DETROIT ELECTRIC' in June of 1907, producing 125 cars that year. This
increased to 1500 in 1910. In 1911 the firm changed its name to the
ANDERSON ELECTRIC CAR COMPANY and introduced its new 'chainless'
direct shaft drive automobile.
Even though they advertised 80 miles between charges, an endurance run
was made of 211 miles on a single battery charge. They used Edison
batteries.
The car's appeal was mainly to women drivers and doctors, both of whom
desired the dependable and immediate start without cranking. Remember,
doctors made house calls in those days.
In 1914 production had increased to 4669 cars and in 1919 the name was
again changed, to the DETROIT ELECTRIC CAR COMPANY."

"This 1918 electric car was purchased by Duke Power Company in 1993
from Dr. & Mrs. Harry Kanhofer of Santee, S.C., and was restored by
Duke Power employees from the Toddville Garage, Toddville Machine
Shop, Great Falls Machine Shop, Lark Maintenance Center, Corporate
Carpentry and York Technical College Electric Vehicle Program.
The car is steered by a tiller, and the throttle is also a tiller.
The electric motor is directly under the passenger compartment, and
batteries are located under the hood and the trunk."

Detroit Electric 1907-1939
"In 1918 William Anderson retired, and was succeeded by an
Elwell-Parker employee M.S. Towson. The company named was changed the
next year to Detroit Electric Car Company, although body production
was still under the name Anderson."
http://www.lib.wayne.edu/resources/special_collections/local/cfai/pages/detroitelectric.html
"The Detroit electric car was produced from 1907 to 1938 by the
Anderson Carriage Co. (1907-1910), then the Anderson Electric Car Co.
(1911-1918) and finally the Detroit Electric Car Co (1919-1938), all
of them being located in Detroit. The 31-year span of production makes
this one of the longest-lived electric cars being produced, and it was
one of the more popular makes of electric cars in the U.S. While more
than 1,000 vehicles per year were produced some years prior to 1914,
production fell off after that and dramatically into the 1920's.
During the 1930's production was on an as-ordered basis only, and very
few Detroit electrics were produced after 1935, although orders were
apparently accepted until 1942. Starting in the 1920's, the Detroits
started to use body parts from conventional car-builders which tended
to make the cars look more like gasoline-powered cars, including some
with vents in the hood.
There is a 1914 and a 1922 Detroit Electric in the holdings of the
Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn MI. The 1914 Detroit in the collection
was that of Mrs. Ford. While she always had a personal vehicle from
the time Ford was mass-producing vehicles, she never drove a Ford,
only electrics. Stories of the period indicate she felt gasoline was
too dangerous."

Search Strategy
Aside from doing the usual searches at Google and used book websites
using terms like: detroit electric car, motorcar, anderson carriage
company, etc., my breakthrough came when I started seaching the
Library of Congress. I went through the lists using the above search
terms, looking for anything of interest published around 1919. My
heart did a little leap when I finally came on "Electric Vehicle
Hand-Book", and especially after I researched it and found out it was
published every year, including 1919!
