In order to hire the right people, in additon to skill test, I need to asses personal inclinations such as: * curious * flexible * result-oriented (not carried away) * resilient * analytical * hands-on Common aptitude tests do not go this far. I'm looking for best practices that are backed bu scientific experiment. Good answers can be: * Books with many sample multiple choice questions, reports and analysis. * Pointers to best books on this subjects are useful. |

I spent nearly a decade as an aptitude testing specialist for a state government agency. While aptitude tests which attempt to evaluate job-related abilities have been thoroughly normed and scientifically evaluated, personality tests are a very different matter. Things such as curiosity and resiliency are difficult to define, much less measure. It is my belief that tests of such characteristics are generally a waste of time and money. Others feel differently, of course, but many of the "others" are attached to the industries that produce and sell such tests. |
