Question relates to Selection Priority of Chemical Compounds Excreted
by the Human Kidney (Biochemistry?). Specifically: When taking a
daily combination diuretic ("water" pill), triamterene (75mg) /
hydrochlorothiazide (50mg) mnfg by Mylam Corp (other pharmacutical
companies mnfg it also), does this affect blood alcohol level from
what it would be if subject medication was NOT taken? Note: the human
kidneys normally excrete about 5% to 10% of the total amount of
ethanol (beverage alcohol) ingested. This question relates to an
existing blood alcohol level of about .10% (the at or above level that
can be grounds for being charged with a Driving While Intoxicated
(DWI) crime. I have searched some hardcopy kidney medical books
targeted to the lay person at the public library. They do NOT talk
about the subject at all. I have NOT searched internet newsgroups and
websites. I started to search www.webmd but did NOT have time to
follow through. If you find the answer, I will need you to cite the
EXACT source, preferably from an authoritative source. Thanks for
your consideration!! The correct answer is worth twenty (20) U.S.
dollars ($20.00) to me. If you succeed, I have more follow-up
questions for you relating to my DWI issue. The correct answers to
those questions are worth even more to me. My profession is that of a
rookie legal researcher. I'm sure I could find the answer, but I'm
currently very busy with other things. I could probably get the right
answer with a toll-free call to the Manufacturer. Also, I know a
medical doctor, Rob, who is my #1 sportfishing companion. Rob
graduated from the Univ of Minn Medical School and he could probably
direct me to Professor there who is a kidney specialist. Or, he might
have a colleague or friend who is a kidney specialist.
