I am conducting some research about venture capital backed companies
that were acquired by public companies. Specifically I am gathering
data to determine if companies start out as LLC's and then convert to
C-corporation. I am interested in determining at what stage of growth
do most companies get acquired.

I am investigating the following company below and want to
find the following information (items 1-14).

Voicetek corporation

1. Who they were acquired by
2. Deal type (cash or stock)
3. Deal size (dollar value)
4. Primary Venture Capital firm involved 5. The Year the company was founded
a. Was it founded as an LLC or C-corp?
b. Location of company at founding
6. The Year the company was acquired
a. Location of when sold
b. Entity Type at acquisition (C-corporation or LLC)
c. Acquired company Sales in dollars at time of acquisition
d. Number of employees at acquisition
7. CEO name
8. CFO name
9. How many rounds of financing were there and how much were they for?
10. Names of all investor firms?
11. Did the company licensed the technology-if so how much at what price?
12. Board members at point of acquisition?
a. Other board details if possible
13. Investment bank involved in acquisition-(smith barney, JP morgan, etc)
14. How much money was paid to the investment bank in the acquisition?

Having access to things like ventureexpert.com or nvca.com or other
private databases might help. Feel free to contact me for any
clarification. For anyone that completes the project by friday, June
24th of this week will receive a tip of $10

tjgill999-ga,

I usually like a good corporate-research question, especially when
they pose a challenge.

However, I'm afraid your series of questions is a bit too much of a
challenge. You've asked not for 14, but 20 pieces of information on
each company, and almost each item would -- by itself -- be hard to
come by. Private companies are just that...private...and not a lot of
details about them are made public, even when it's a public company
that purchases them.

Have you tried researching one of your companies on your own? If you
have, I wonder if you were able to find more than half of the items
you asked for, even with several days worth of work on a company.

I don't really have a suggestion for you on this...if you need the
information, then you need it. However, I'd be surprised if any of
your questions manages to get answered. This is one tough set of
information queries.

Just my two cents...

I do recognize that this is difficult info to come by which is why I
thought I would give someone else a go. I know there are subscription
databases that some researchers may have access to. I can't pay for a
$5000/yr subscription for such a relatively small amount of
information. However, people that already have that subscription
could probably tackle this kind of problem in a much shorter time
frame. I would be willing to up the price if you think it would help
motivate researchers. I am leary because I have 8 companies that I am
researching and I would like to keep my total cost under $500 but I
would be willing to pay that if necessary if you think you can tackle
this.

tjgill999-ga,

Please look at my suggestions on your Packet Engines question. I think
there are researchers who would really like to help.
