Hi there. Let's say you were a computer consultant, and you were
called in to review a small to mid-sized company's current technology
environment. What I am looking for is a computer environment
"checklist" or "report card" that can be used to help with the
analysis. At a high level, it would include things to review like:
Virus Protection/Anti-Virus Software, Spyware Protection, Server
Connectivity and Security, Email, Website, Remote Access, Wireless
Connectivity/Security, Printers, etc. At a better, more detailed
level, maybe the checklist would have something like this:

Step 12: Check the Anti-Virus Software
Is it set to automatically receive the latest updates?
Are the latest updates installed and verified
Are virus scanning schedules set and are they working
Anti-Virus cannot be turned off/is secured
Has the Virus log files been reviewed?
Have any viruses placed in quarantine for over 90 days been deleted?

I believe that possibly techrepublic may have these listed, or I might
suggest even on Microsoft's site, maybe even CIO.com?

I work with "Eracent Enterprise Asset Management", a great tool that
does complete audits of hardware and software on just about any
environment. It tracks version numbers, RAM, CPU, hard drive
space/used, and a host of other things. I heartily recommend it, as I
use it to check compliance with 8,500 computers and I can do it
at-a-glance.

Thanks for the comment, maybe my question isn't clear enough. Yes,
getting hardware/software audit is a piece of cake, there's lots of
free or very cheap software that can do that. But, to my knowledge,
an auditing tool cannot tell you things like whether "automatic virus
updates" are set to on, when they have been last updated, when the
subscription expires, how many viruses are in quarantine, if the Virus
software is password protected, etc.
