I am searching for a doodle toy that was very popular in the early 90's (I believe, maybe even earlier). It was an extremely simple, [cheap], device that consisted of a rectangular piece of cardboard about the size of an index card (usually white) and a dark-blackish/grayish film laid on top of the cardboard piece glued on one side. You were able to draw shapes on the film using any object (including your finger) and the drawing would come out in various colors. You could then clear the palette by simply lifting up the plastic off the cardboard and laying it back down. I am looking for the name, source to purchase, and manufacturer name of the product. Your help is appreciated! I imagine answering this is relatively simple for someone who knows what I am talking about (and the toy was quite popular), but if you don't feel that price offered for the question is sufficient please let me know. | |

Hi cavernous-GA, I have found some information for you to contact the company I mentioned earlier. http://www.rbtoy.com/printed.htm#MAGIC%20MEMO%20PADS On that page, at the bottom is an inquiry form. I e-mailed them to ask them about some of your questions (still being sold, patent, etc), and they stated they?d rather have you e-mail them yourself through the form. So?there you go. Here is my clarification from above, posted as an answer as you stated. Good evening cavernous-ga. I was able to find a site that has a (bad) picture but it was exactly what I was thinking of when I read your question: ( http://www.rbtoy.com/printed.htm ) Scroll down to Magic Memo Pads and on the far right is what I remember using as a kid :) According to this site, "Magic Memo Pads is a trademark of RB Toy Development Co." Their contact information is: 350 W. Kensington Road, Suite 111 Mt. Prospect IL 60056 Tel: 847-577-5680 Fax: 847-577-5685 Nenna-GA Google Researcher Google Search Term: magic memo pad |

pinkfreud, Yes, that is exactly it. I appreciate the link. I was not sure how these functioned (ie: via the backing or via the film), but that is now cleared up. What I am in fact looking for is some thin, film-like substrate that can [preferrably temporarily, but permanently would work as well, albeit not as well] hold a shape from force applied to it without the need of a wax-coated backing - something akin to a thermochromic material that reacts to pressure rather than heat. Ideally, it can hold the shape on the film itself so that nothing else is needed. Do you have any ideas about substrate(s) that fit this description? If so, I will be happy to post another question so you can get credit/paid et al. Thanks! |
