Dear Ragg,
What kind of water facilities do you alerady have?
What place can you spare for the toilets?
Did you buy a mobile home which is dependent (as in having no toilets)?

Hi ragg,

Like you say, it's amazing that basic bodily functions should cause so
much complication!

Chemical "potty" toilets such as the Coleman
http://www.safetycentral.com/noname53.html
are a solution for those who want to try to simulate a home toileting
experience - but as you say they lead to hassles with emptying and
cleaning.

Plastic-bag based solutions (such as your honey-bucket toilet)
simplify emptying and cleaning, but are not always as convenient,
comfortable and compact as one would like.

You mention that your van is small, so you may wish to consider the
OutBack Pack portable toilet:
http://www.outbackpack.com/
It's made of strong corrugated cardboard (and takes users up to 275
pounds weight). The beauty of this unit is that it folds up small (11
by 2 by 5 inches) as shown here:
http://www.outbackpack.com/obppics/index.html
but unfolds to a comfortable size. It's a plastic-bag based system and
sells for $15.

Another folding toilet is the Packin' Potty:
http://www.packinpotty.com/portable-toilet.html
It takes a plastic bag liner, and may be more durable than the OutBack
Pack, but it's $90 and is probably over-engineered for your stated
requirements.

If you visit secluded places in a warm climate, and have (or can add)
a trailer hitch receiver, you could consider the Bumper Dumper:
http://www.bumperdumper.com/bumper2.htm
It's a frame which enables a standard toilet seat to be mounted to the
back of your vehicle (outside). It's not for everyone, but some folks
swear by it. One user warns to keep the keys with you whilst on the
Bumper Dumper - he was once sitting on it when someone else drove the
vehicle away! The Bumper Dumper can be used with or without a plastic
bag, and can also be used on top of a bucket instead of on the back of
the vehicle.

Finally, you may be parked in a location where urine can be disposed
of straight into the ground. You could run a short piece of sloping
pipe through the side of the RV. Placed at a suitable height, it will
enable you to pee directly to the outside. A cork on the end will keep
draughts and odors out.

If you are on the road (driving) and lets say that your children need
to go sooooo bad, but you don't want to stop and want to spare
everyone the *joy* of trying to "flush" a mobile home toilet while
moving....
(I know, silly situation, but it works!)
Here is my suggestion:
For the ladies or small boys:
Buy a huge 64 oz. plastic fountain drink cup from QuikTrip (if you
have that particular gas station where you are) and go in that. It
has a wide mouth that fits rather perfectly, and the top is not sharp.
Furthermore, it holds lots of liquid and can be discretely disposed
of. Especially since it is not see-through. People think you are
disposing of Mellow Yellow or something. They ar washable, too!
*HINT* If you regularly purchase fountain drinks from QuikTrip and buy
refills, you may want to mark the defiled cup or less it may be filled
with pop and then...well, you know. No one wants to drink out of a
cup that has been used for *that* My mom is notorious for this
bathroom method.
IF YOU HAVE TO do the other thing...we usually find a rest stop. But,
I imagine a large plastic icecream bucket would do the job. Just keep
some toilet paper handy.

HOPE THAT HELPS and thanks for such an odd, odd question!

Prety good suggestions
My research suggests that a honey bucket toilet lined with a plastic
bag with an additiona inner bag to use for feces collection (no
urine0 removed and tied up, then disposed of seperateli - is the best
solution. . Potty Toilets are no good - drag to empty and clean etc
etc.
For urine I use the regular plastic petrol can - has a screw top -
can't see through etc etc. This system works great.
Is there any better solution. These are basic human fuctions and
most only know the obvios/expensive solution.
