Hello katfish-ga,
Sound Blaster is simply a sound card. It is manufactured by Creative
and has a long history. In the early days, PCs could not produce the
wide range of realistic audio they do today. In early PC models, and
actually still to this day, there is a so-called "PC speaker" inside
the actual computer case. All a PC Speaker can really do is beep. So
the add-on sound card was introduced to allow computers to make more
realistic sounds. In the early days you had to buy an add-on card.
Nowadays you can't buy a computer without a sound card. The actual
sound card is identifiable as the one you plug the speakers into on
the back of your computer. In your question, you asked if it was a CD
burner. I think you may be wondering this because Creative has been
known to bundle CD-ROMs/burners and other multimedia add-ons with
their sound cards. So it is quite possible that you have a Creative
brand CD burner, but the Sound Blaster is definitely the sound card.
Thanks for your question,
-Emlyn
