I'm looking for a site SELLING a Dog collar with a LOCK and a KEY made
of leather or, preferred, metal (padded) for a heavy duty working dog
(not the fancy show-off stuff).
FOR REAL USAGE!

These are BAD examples for what I'm looking for:
http://www.geocities.com/dogcollarguy/
http://www.argentum-theleopard.com/404019.htm

This is the general outline.
I have searched the net and found nothing (the closest things are the
ones presented before and as I said they are useless to me).

I need it so no one can unleash the dog or steal it from the garden.
The collar must be sutable for a PitBull (at least 60 cm long).

Thank you,
Lord Byzantine

How could somebody steal the dog if you're holding the leash?

As I said:
"I need it so no one can unleash the dog or steal it from the garden."

The Dog is at the garden, ALONE tied up with a regular collar that
anyone can untie and this tied to a chain and that in turn is hooked
to a post stuck in the ground.

My Pitbull had been "kidnapped" by children who wanted to play with
him sevral times already - they simply removed the collar and I had to
look for my dog for long, long hours every time. Moreover, he was
almost stolen by someone well known to the police. This dog is very
dear to me, and even though he is a three year old pitbull he is as
nice to people (and strangers) as a poodle.

I have tried everything you can imagin.
I don't want to simply put a lock around his neck coz this will hurt
him very much and may even cose him to choke to death.

Please help,

Lord Byzantine

Hi lord_byzantine,

I've been searching for the type of collar you described without any
luck. Is there anyway you can attach a small lock to the metal buckle
part of the collar he now wears? A lock such as you'd use to close
luggage?

Is there any possiblity you could utilize secure fencing with a secure
locked gate that no one can open? If no one could enter the garden
area then your dog is safe from intruders.

Best regards,
tlspiegel

I am a good handyman - I love DIY stuff.
I have tried doint what you suggested (with the small lock) and the
lock broke the moment my dog saw a can and started pulling ...
So I used a bigger lock, however I don't like it. There is a great
risk that he will get this thing around his neck, or eat something big
and ...

I have a fence (1.5 meters) anyone can jump over it. getting a bigger
higher fence will make my place look like a county jail (and don't
forget the cost of that thing).

Thank you,
Lord Byzantine

Unless it's a growing dog you can use a rivet to close the collar

pass a chain throught the collar and lock it to the post stuck in the ground

I found a locking collar with a key, but it's not for dogs. Rather,
it's made for -- well, it's made for alternative adult activities.
Still, it might just work for your needs. You can see it here:

Good luck,

Not good.
I will not be able to take it off when I need to (We need toi have
walks every day, don't we?)

Well thank you for the offer, they seem to have some heavy duty
collars there, still not heavy enough for a pitbull and outside usage
:)

Thank you anyways

After cracking up with laughter at the description of your pacifist
pit bull (perhaps you should get a dog to guard him), I'm finally
getting a handle on what you want.

Our dogs always had collars, but when we walked them it was on a choke
chain, in addition to the collar.

This may sound cruel, but they got the message pretty quickly.
Since you sound pretty capable of modifying things, why not locate an
ordinary chain, add padding, and use that in addition to his normal
collar.

Another thing that might be sensible, is to negotiate a deal with the kids.
They will come on your property anyway (when you are not around) so
you might as well give them 'visiting rights'.

You can find a locking leash/collar combo at this site:

http://www.ruffwear.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.15/it.A/id.1386/.f

It's probably too short to use on its own; but maybe you could link
two of them together?

Thank you michelle2000-ga

I think you have found what I was looking for. This one is great.
However, "We no longer process International orders. Please use our
Store Finder to locate an international Ruff Wear dealer." (from the
site)

Thank you very much for your help - at least now I have a direction.

Hello Lord B,
If your dog collar has a buckle, what about just putting a small
padlock (suitcase size) through the collar, either locking the leather
end to the buckle or with a hole in the leather next to the buckle
locking the end to that?
