In order to stop spyware, a few good tools are needed. If you are running Windows XP, I would ensure that you have windows firewall enabled (Instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283673). If you are using an older version of windows, install a free firewall, such as Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/). I currently use Norton Firewall (bought it was part of an internet security suite, combined with their anti-virus) and am quite happy with it. An up to date antivirus scanner is essential to keeping your computer secure. Also keep your Windows up to date with the latest patches from http://www.windowsupdate.com If you are a fan of Yahoo!, they recently introduced an anti-spyware component of their toolbar for use with Internet Explorer http://toolbar.yahoo.com/. But, I would suggest installing a browser other than Internet Explorer. Firefox is a free competitor and is more secure against the spyware and adware problems that plague Internet Explorer. (http://www.getfirefox.com). To ensure that you are keeping your system clean, I would install the free ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and free Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html) softwares. Run these tools weekly, as you would with a antivirus program, and they will keep your system clean. Also do not use any peer-to-peer filesharing networks, as they are full of viruses and spyware/adware. These are all free tools and methods that a computer repair shop would use to secure your computer for you, while charging an arm and a leg for the service! The best way of keeping your system spyware/adware free is to be mindful of what you are downloading and installing while surfing the internet. If something seems out of place or if the source isn't respectable, don't install it. |

(sorry for my bad English) Windows Xp just have a Firewall (that is automatic by default) To avoid spyware you can use an anti-spyware program as "Spybot search and destroy" or "Ad-aware". For example my computer use Sbybot for the Immunize tool that prevent the download of the well known spyware, I also use Ad-aware becouse sometimes he Catch spyware that other programs don't. I suggest also Spywareblaster that do Acive X protection. These programs are free and You can find it easily with Google.. I suggest you to download Windows service pack 2 that avoid and repear some Windows bug... If you want to be sure don't forget to download "Mozzilla Firefox Web Browser" Internet Explorer use some of Windows files so if Internet Explore crash windows could crash too! with Mozzilla Firefox you can do the same as Internet Explorer but have more control on download and spyware too! (also have a google bar inside..) I also have spyware and virus problems... In 3 months my computer collapsed 3 times for virus attack and I have to run ad-Aware every day... Now I have install Mozzilla firefox every day I still run Ad-Aware, exc.. But today I have no spyware... If for same reason you don't want to change your web browser you can download google bar that avoid same internet Explorer problem.... |
