How do you create a table of contents drawer for a PDF on a Mac OS X 10.3.9? I need to be able to create the one large PDF out of several smaller ones and have a drawer that lists the names of the smaller PDF's so that they can be clicked in and take you to the first page of that PDF. I would perfer to not have to buy a program to do this, but will if I have to. |

Hello monpetiteoiseau, Although there are several low cost programs for Mac OS X that can do some minor editing (i.e., PDFPen, pdf-Office), none of them support "PDF Bookmarks". "PDF Bookmarks" are how "table of contents" within PDFs are implemented. Tiger has a bookmark feature for PDFs, but it creates global (specific to one user on a machine) PDF bookmarks. The only way you can really do it is to buy the full version of Acrobat from Adobe. Within Acrobat it's quite easy to accomplish what you want to do. The steps to create a bookmark are: 1. Use the full version of Acrobat to open the PDF you want to modify 2. Open the Bookmarks tab on the left side of the window 3. Navigate to the page you would like to bookmark (you can monitor the page number changes using the page number field at the bottom of the document) 4. In the Bookmarks tab in the left side of the window click Options->New Bookmark 5. Enter a name for the bookmark and hit enter You can even use drag and drop to reorder the table of contents or arrange it in a hierarchical manner. You should also note that the expanded state of hierarchy is preserved, so you should set it exactly how you want it before you save.
