Question ID: 53637
I have a storix portable hard-drive (my second) and a compaq laptop.
I got the storix to hold all my mp3 music which are just my albums...
about 25 gigs worth. data transfers smoothly back and forth but my
mp3's get hung up and will not transfer, some do and some don't. a
file will just keep repeating itself. a song, just get's hung up.
The same song (if I try it again). I've reformatted the hard-drive on
my computer, re-encoded my music. I've replaced the storix with
another... I've tried it with bus2 and with standard bus1. with extra
power to the storix and without... I'm ready to go to a Mac! One of
the reasons I got a laptop with a cd burner was to get into music and
this problem has become a nightmare. Iwill be playing a long list of
music on WMplayer and after an hour or two the system locks up. Very
frustrating

eddiejanzer...

Just to clarify, which version of WMplayer? I had the same problem
with
version 7.0, and assumed the problem would continue with later
versions,
so I re-installed version 6.4, but use Sonique to play MP3
collections,
with no problems.

If you haven't tried Sonique yet, you can get it, free, at:
http://sonique.lycos.com/

Or you might prefer Winamp, available free, at:
http://www.winamp.com/

Searches, via Google:

Winamp

If this resolves your problem, let me know, and I'll post it
as an answer.

Just a suggestion to remedy your problem.

Step 1: sell the storix hard drive on ebay
Step 2: sell the compaq on ebay
Step 3: buy anything else but a compaq
Step 4: buy an Apple Ipod

If this doesn't fix your problem, i don't know what will.

kamran, yeappers could not agree more, my sister had a comcrap, I
don't know what she did with it, but one day she came home with a sony
laptop. The comcrap has never been seen since. Windoze MP, v.7.1 using
a ton of MB. Takes "forever" to load, plugins went haywire. I just got
the Win IE and MP update disc, a few months ago, and they already had
Win MP 8.0 in the works, figures, now I need to upgrade, again.
Meantime, I am using Realone, less MB, easier interface too. Dunno if
I'll try Win MP 8.0, last time I had a conflict. I also d/l Quicktime,
very nice, clearer mpeg images also. I may be looking @ a Mac laptop.

Completely agree with comments, Never use Compaq.
I use Winamp and IBM and have played upto few gigs of songs/albums in
playlist with no problem never tried 25 gigs though.

its a fakt, mikrosh!t (dragging windows) gets equally worse as tit
advances forward an "better". even when i do bekome forced II use I a
those win boxes, i use older versions a most stuff jus kause tit
worksxz better. th media player that yu hafta dig up (questionable why
they inklude an older version wif 98 se e`em tho yu sposed II jus use
7, but i dun kare, i benefit from tit) runs infinitely better... in my
experience a`least, faster, mure reliable,less buggy,mure kompatable,
an leads II fewer BSoD`s. why pop up a skreen wi a buncha numbers
anaway? jus say yu got mess`t up an yu gots II restart or somen...
tha`s wha all my apples do.... when they (very rarely) do. try usin an
older media player, check yur drives an konnektions, get new kables,
use differnt apps. suggestions from th outer side
