I'm trying to find/buy a simple device that plugs into 2 regular phone
lines (a.k.a. POTS lines or FXO ports). When line 1 rings, the box
must answer the call and then automatically connect the caller to the
second phone line, thereby giving the caller a dialtone so that
another call can be made using line 2.

Although it is not essential, I would prefer the device to work both
ways... so that it would also answer line 2 and connect it to line 1.

I am aware of expensive products that can be programmed to do this
task, but they usually require a dedicated connection to a computer
and involve programming. However I am looking for a "standalone"
product.

This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for for over a year. Damn
I'm good. Actually if I was that good I would have found it a year
ago, but I did find it! Woohaa!
