Question ID: 53678
What could I do about an A C Separation of my right shoulder and a
chipped right elbow bone? Is there a microscopic surgery that could be
performed instead of evasive surgery that'll leave scars and or
deformities? I live in Staten Island,NY in the USA. This is a Worker's
Compensation Case issue.

Respectfully,

Anthony White

Hi Mr. White,

Wengland is right. Not all AC repairs require surgery. Usually
Worker's Comp cases involve one, if not more, opinions from an IME
(independent medical examiner) before surgery is undertaken. If
you've been down this road, have they told you what type of separation
you have? I've pulled this information from this document if you'd
care to take a look.

"Types I-III are common, while Types IV-VI are not and, when found,
require surgical consultation. For AC joint degeneration from
repetitive motion that is found to be work-related, see this Section
IV.B.6., Impingement Syndrome."

First, GA is no substitute for a doctors advice. Find a good
orthopaedic doctor and get professional advice.

Second, all the treatments I was able to find show that 1) surgery
isn't always needed unless it is a severe case, and 2) if surgery is
needed, it requires a 4 to 5" incision, and possibly screws.
