hi there~! I am trying to find another name for this position. at
this store, the position is called "money counter" and the money
counter counts the cash sales from the day before, consolidates the
sales, prepares new trays for the next day, prepares a daily bank
deposit and reconciles credit card and atm transactions from the day
before. the counter maintains fit currency and rolled coin supply for
the market. I am sure there must be another common name for this. It
is kind of like being a bank teller.

if there is more than one name for this kind of a job, please post
that too. looking around online, I don't see "money counter" showing
up too often on google...

Please ask for any clarification.

Might this job be called "head cashier" or "cash office clerk"?

Cashiers

Advancement opportunities for cashiers vary. For those working part
time, promotion may be to a full-time position. Others advance to head
cashier or cash-office clerk. In addition, this job offers a good
opportunity to learn about an employer?s business and can serve as a
steppingstone to a more responsible position.

A term that keeps showing up in my searches is "center aisle cashier"
(or "central aisle cashier"), though I haven't yet found a clear-cut
job description for this particular job title.

This might help you or another researcher pin something down, though.

Hello banchan-ga,

Thank you for your feedback and I'm glad to hear that you're satisfied
with my answer. Aside from the Bureau of Labor Statistics references,
I also found this term used in job postings and discussions of retail
jobs. Here are a few more links to demonstrate the situations I ran
across.

Whenever someone asks about jobs I first turn to the Occupational
Outlook Handbook because it will usually give the the job titles I
need. In your case the Cashier job description led to Head Cashier and
Cash Office Clerk as the next steps for advancement. I continued my
search looking for "cash office clerk" and variations on other
modifiers and was able to come up with the following links to show you
how the responsibilities of these jobs in a variety of retail
settings.

I'm glad you found my suggested answer appropriate.

Wishing you well.

They had no right to accuse you or even ask you of anything. They
should not be messing with the money during the same day anyway. The
only thing the could of done was a till audit and then had it come up
short. In that case the Admin Dept Mgr or Cash office clerk are the
ones who usually look into this stuff. The till would not be
considered "short" until all the tills were counted the next day and
the info put into the ATS machine and it tells which tills are short
or over.

***** This is a thread describing the situation of a retail clerk
who's till was short one night and how it was handled. The mention of
the "cash office clerk" in the thread implies job responsibilities
that match the one you asked about.

A friend of mine used to hold a similar position in a grocery store.
His job title was "Store Bursar." I don't know whether or not this
term is widespread in the industry.
