I need a list of manufacturers that use print catalogs to sell their
products. We convert print catalogs to cd-rom and I need to find
these customers. |

Many catalog companies are not, themselves, the manufacturers of the
products they sell.
Are you looking ONLY for manufacturers? If so, what sort of
manufacturers are you most interested in?
Let me know.

I do not want the names of catalog companies. I want the names, and
contact information for manufacturing companies that use a printed
catalog that they send, give at trade shows etc., to their customers
to showcase their products. I don't really care what they sell.
Typically it is B2B sales companies who are looking to save money and
service their customers better by using a cd-rom catalog rather than
the print catalog. I want to be able to contact them and offer them
our services to convert the print to cd-rom. Thank you for asking.
This is very very important to me.

Thanks for the fast reply. I'm afraid the wording of my prior
question (by mentioning 'catalog companies') may have been a bit
confusing.
What I really meant to ask is, are you looking ONLY for manufacturers?
For instance, here is an image of a paper catalog from a
non-manufacturing company called TecNec, that sells (but doesn't
manufacture) electronics:
http://catalogs.google.com/catalogs?num=100&hl=en&lr=&issue=21696&catpage=cover
Would this sort of company be of interest? Or only those that
actually manufacture their own products?
Also, how many such companies do you hope to have listed in an answer
-- it would help to have a bit of a guideline.

Hello, mr4698-ga!
Thomas Register of American Manufacturers has a huge listing of
manufacturer's catalogs along with the contact information. Please let
me know if this compilation of resources answers your question. To
expect a researcher to go through every manufacturer would involve too
many hours to count. Yet, if the company is of interest, you can
easily click on the Contact Info to send an email.

For example, under Apparel, I clicked on Activewear. The first company
is Northern Apparel.
Northern Safety Co., Inc. - Utica, NY - Contact

NS¿ exclusive products, including N-specs® safety eyewear, N-steps¿

Clicking on the contact info provides this info:

On second thought, Northern Apparel was NOT a good example since it is
a Distributor rather than a Manufacturer. Each listing distinguishes
whether the company manufactures it's own products and I mistakenly
used that company as an improper example.
King Louie International is a better example:
#6 in the List
King Louie International, Inc. - Grandview, MO
Manufacturer
Company Profile: Apparel Products For The Promotional Products
Industry, Including Shirts, Outerwear, Knitwear, Activewear

I am still researching this on Thomas Register. I am not finding the
list of catalogs nor anything like a Thomcat section. I am looking
for a list of manufacturers that right now offer a printed catalog - I
need to call upon these people to see if they would like to convert
that catalog to CD-ROM. I don't see that information on the Thomas
Register site.

I just talked to the people at Thomas Register and they told me they
don't have anything that will tell me what companies have a print
catalog. They do not have that information. I wish this would have
worked. I am at a loss - I need this information.

mr4698,
Was my example of King Louie International acceptable, as a
manufacturer of activewear, with the catalog displayed on their site?
If this is the type of example you are looking for, the culling will
have to be done by hand. If so, how many will you consider acceptable
for an answer, given the time involved and the price offered? And what
categoried are most desirable?

Another labor intensive approach you might try would involve ordering
the Directory of Business to Business Catalogs and researching each
company online to see if they are a manufacturer or simply a retailer.
You would have to order the catalog and proceed from there (probably
more labor-intensive than the Thomas Register approach, since the
company website links are available online)

mr4698-ga,
If there was an existing online list of manufacturers that rely on
print catalogs, I am confident that my fellow researcher, umiat-ga,
would have found it. But since the Thomas list of manufacturers
doesn't meet your needs, it seems that a list will have to be
constructed from scratch.
I have put together a sophisticated Google search that does a pretty
good job of pinpointing websites of manufacturers with print catalogs.
It's not perfect! There will certainly be some non-manufacturers, or
some non-print-catalog companies on the list.
However, the results are still pretty good. The first ten results on
the list are as follows:

With some fine-tuning, I may be able to put together an even more
precise search to eliminate many of the duds.
Does this sort of approach look to be of interest to you? If so, let
me know, and I'll post an answer to your question with some search
results that contain links similar to those above.
Let me know what you think.
