Hi Porkj,

?Lymphangiomas are benign tumors that are composed primarily of
lymphatic vessels. They are classified into three pathologic groups:
the lymphangioma simplex, the cavernous lymphangioma, and the cystic
lymphangioma or cystic hygroma (1). Cystic lymphangiomas most commonly
affect infants. Occurance in adults is rare, with fewer than 90 cases
reported in the literature.?

With fewer than 90 reported cases in adults, it is quite difficult to
find specialists in this area! While I searched, I came across several
people asking for doctors to treat this disorder. Keep in mind that
you may have to visit several doctors until you find one who really
knows this topic. Since you didn?t mention the part of the body that
is afflicted, some of the doctors on the list may or may not treat any
location. Generally speaking, surgery or otolaryngology departments of
large hospitals have doctors who have access to the latest medical
information.

It also was not clear to me if you wanted imaging specialists or
doctors who can treat Lymphangioma simplex. In any case, I have found
you a group of radiologists that do specialize in lymphangioma
imaging.

Please keep in mind that lymphangioma simplex is very rare. I have
found doctors who are knowledgeable in the field, but I can?t verify
that they are taking new patients. If you contact any of the doctors
below, and they do NOT treat lymphangioma simplex, please ask who they
would recommend. Be sure and tell them where on the body the
lymphangioma is located! I feel confident you will find at least one
or two below who can assist you.

Here is a paper by Dr. Konez
http://www.emedicine.com/radio/topic761.htm

?The Vascular Anomalies Center at The Children?s Hospital at The
Cleveland Clinic offers precise diagnosis and innovative treatment for
children with these lesions, which often are complex and difficult to
manage.
The Clinic?s vascular anomalies team consists of an interventional
radiologist, pediatric general surgeon, pediatric plastic surgeon,
pediatric dermatologist, pediatric radiologist, vascular surgeon and
pediatric hematologist. They consult with colleagues in
otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, orthopaedics, urology or
neurosurgery as needed.

Correct diagnosis and treatment are crucial. ?More than half of all
children with vascular anomalies are misdiagnosed, and many are
undertreated or overtreated,? notes Cleveland Clinic radiologist Orhan
Konez, M.D., one of a handful of U.S. interventional radiologists
specializing in vascular anomalies.
The first step evaluating patients involves a history, physical and
diagnostic imaging. Dr. Konez uses MRI and MR angiography for the
diagnosis of vascular anomalies, and has pioneered the use of CT
angiography to aid in diagnosis.
The most common vascular anomalies treated in the center are
hemangiomas, venous and arteriovenous malformations, and lymphatic
malformations. Some malformation, like capillary hemangiomas, go away
on their own when the child is between 7 and 10 years. Others, like
port-wine stains, should be treated because they may be associated
with underlying disease.?
