Question ID: 537302
My girlfriend's son backed into another residents vehicle, while it
was parked on the property of the apartments which she(girlfriend &
son) currently resides at. This incident was reported to have
occurred at around mid-afternoon this past Friday by the owners of the
vehicle. The son denies any knowledge or involvement of any kind
pertaining to this incident. My question is basically this... What
kind of liabilities could we face? The vehicle that is in question as
to being the one that caused the damage to the other residents
vehicle, is registered to me. My girlfriend and I frequently
alternate our vehicles with each other. We have current, full
coverage insurance on our vehicles, which covers all of us in case of
an accident. I cannot prove that my girlfriend's son did this.
However, we are relatively certain that he is the one. The management
of the apartments has alleged that my vehicle was the guilty vehicle.
Furthermore, they have stated that there is a pending police report
with the police department. Although, we have never been contacted by
the police. I don't know what to do about this situation. Any
helpful advice (ASAP) on this would be greatly appreciated!

697-ga,

Does the son have a driver's license? Is he insured? Whose policy is
he on? Were there any witnesses? Who reported it to the police? Why
was the son fingered as the culprit? The more information you can
share, the more likely we will be able to get you what you need.
Thanks.

The son does have a valid TX DL, and is covered under my insurance
policy. We don't know if there are any witnesses. It was reported to
the police by the resident whose vehicle was damaged. Although, I
have never actually talked with any police regarding the incident.
Nobody that we know of, has actually fingered my girlfriends son as
the culprit. We feel that there are some unanswered questions that
have made us feel relatively certain that he's involved.
