While Remote Desktop can sometimes be a useful tool, it is
unwise for you to post your IP address in a public forum, as
would be necessary in this instance, since Google Answers
Researchers are not allowed private personal interaction with
customers. Nonetheless, the installation of the fax service
should be a relatively straightforward process which can be
accomplished by carefully following simple directions.
This article on Microsoft.com, by Sharon Crawford, Windows XP
Expert Zone Community Columnist, gives step-by-step directions
for installing and using the Windows XP fax service:

"Setting Up and Configuring Windows XP Fax
The fax service isn't automatically installed in Windows XP.
To install the fax component:
1. Open Control Panel, and click Add or Remove Programs.
2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components. Select the Fax Services
check box, and then click Next. The Windows Component Wizard
takes care of the rest.
Note: If you don't have a modem already installed, take care
of that now. Make sure the modem is connected to a phone line
and the phone line is connected to a working jack. (You'd be
surprised how often folks overlook these details.)"
Here's a second page, from SupportForYourPC.com, with similar
instructions:
http://tools.supportforyourpc.com/get_article.asp?aid=849
You may be asked to insert the Windows XP Installation CD in
your CD-ROM during the above process.
There should be no significant differences between these
instructions for Windows XP and Windows XP Pro.
Note that, even if you have a cable or DSL connection, or a
standard modem installed, you *must* have a fax/modem, and it
must be attached to a working phone line, in order for the fax
service to work, though most modems these days should qualify
as such.
If the installation process does not proceed as described, you
will need to provide the exact text of any error messages you
encounter, so that troubleshooting the error can be accomplished
effectively.
