For a certainty, don't get them cropped. They should stay floppy
naturally without cropping. Assuming the mini-pinschers are
proportionally the same as full size, the [full-size] breed standard
states that uncropped ears are floppy. It is more unusual to have
uncropped ears on mini-pins, mainly because they are not allowed in
the show ring with uncropped ears, whereas full-size pinschers are.
What you could do to encourage them to remain floppy is to take up
massaging your puppy's ears, keep them supple and bend them as you
rub/stretch them out.
I did find this page:
Welcome To Jagart's Miniature Pinschers
http://www.jagartsenclave.com/jmp.html
..."In the past the tail and ears were cropped to limit injury due to
the mice and rats, the tail and ears being very vascular. Now days the
ear and tail crop is only done for the vanity effect, the look. Ear
cropping is a very painful procedure for Miniature Pinschers, indeed
outlawed in England, Australia and other European Counties. In Finland
Miniature Pinschers are shown with the tail uncropped and ears
uncropped, naturally standing or floppy. In the Grass Valley area it
is difficult to find Veterinarian who will perform the ear cropping
procedure. In the United States Miniature Pinschers with floppy ears
are not permitted to show in the AKC conformation trials unless they
are cropped. Miniature Pinschers with naturally standing ears may be
shown, however I understand it is much harder to Champion them..."
