I work a lot in Adobe Illustrator and over the years, for some unbelievable
reason, I don't know the values for pure black so that the black is
rich, deep and reproduces correctly in a variety of media, including
magazine ads. I don't think it's 100, 100, 100, 100 (CMYK) but I could
be wrong. Plus, there might be different values for different media.
The goal now is a magazine ad. Can you help?

I'm a Photoshop guy, but maybe this helps you out: The hex code for
"pure black" is #000000 in Photoshop. (Usually without the #)

For best results working in AI add 40% cyan behind 100% Black giving
140% ink cover on the line work. Be careful about traps and
knockout/overprint. Those that want a *rich* black sometimes add 10 or
15% magenta too.

The CMYK values for "true black" are:

C: 50
M: 40
Y: 40
K: 100

You can compare this to just 100% K and see the huge difference.

You can double-check this information at:

Hope this helps,

I believe it is

C: 75
M: 68
y: 67
k: 90

But i know people who use 60,70,80,90

guess it really depends on the printer?
